Suleymaniye Mosque, Istanbul

SKU GEM002 Category

Watercolour 36 x 27cm

One of the world’s great buildings, built by Mimar Sinan, Chief Architect to Suleiman the Magnificent in sixteenth century Istanbul. A scene that had to be simplified somehow but leaving the dome and minarets as the most important elements.  I wanted the whole thing to be bathed in a warm noonday light, which perhaps ended up a bit more reddish that I had at first envisaged.
